Submersion of Loader: South of Island 665, Lake Temagami
The Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks is extending the contract with Killbear Marina for containment. The containment will be in place for an additional 4 weeks until October 28, 2026. From there, we will consider how to proceed.
Notice to Navigators – South of Island 665, Lake Temagami
We have not yet received our sampling results from our August 31 or September 25 sampling events on the lake. Once we do, we would be happy to share those results with the municipality if you are interested.
Ministry staff were on-site on October 5, 2026, conducting a submersible drone survey with the Ministry of Natural Resources. The loader was observed to be in a similar state to how it was observed in the summer, right side up on the lakebed in the same location.
Understanding the proximity of the loader to hydro cables, ministry staff have been communicating with Hydro One. They are aware of the loader and would be available to assist with any work to remove the loader safely. If any work that may impact the delivery of electricity to users is to proceed, notification would be provided in advance.
There was a hearing this morning (October 9, 2026) before the Ontario Land Tribunal regarding this matter. Details will be shared when available.
