Planned Removal of Submerged Equipment from Lake Temagami

From the Municipality of Temagami | October 29, 2026

The Municipality of Temagami wishes to advise residents, property owners, and recreational lake users that the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) has confirmed plans to proceed with the removal of the front-end loader that has been submerged in Lake Temagami near Chimo Island since June 2026.

According to the Ministry, removal operations are anticipated to be completed this fall, subject to weather conditions and operational considerations.

The Ministry has advised that the recovery operation involves inherent risks.

Personnel from multiple government agencies and contractors will be involved in ensuring that appropriate precautions are taken to protect human health, the environment, and property.

For public safety, the Ministry is requesting that all residents, boaters, and recreational lake users avoid the area surrounding the submerged equipment, particularly while removal operations are underway.

A specific commencement date has not yet been confirmed.

The Municipality has been advised that notification will be provided once the removal work has been completed.
