Lake Temagami Elevation Information from Ontario Power Generation
April 29, 2026
Kate Cantin (Ontario Power Generation Senior Communications Advisor, Northeast Operations) has shared some information for TLA members regarding Lake Temagami’s elevation, and anticipated increases, due to a strong water inflow from yesterday’s rain on top of ongoing snow melt. Please feel free to reach out to her at 705-266-5319 if you require more information.
Inflows into Lake Temagami have increased substantially from the ongoing snow melt, and rain received yesterday (April 28) – which was 15-20 mm on the watershed. With inflows increasing, the flow was increased at the Cross Lake Dam (water-control structure downstream of Lake Temagami). However, the elevation of Lake Temagami continues to build, as the natural flow restriction between the Lake and Cross Lake Dam limits the amount of discharge from Lake Temagami. Residents can expect that the elevation will continue to build above normal water levels – with the rate of increase depending on weather conditions over the next few days.
With colder temperatures and minimal precipitation over the next few days, the short-term weather forecast is favourable, and inflows could begin to slow. This could, however, change with precipitation or warming temperatures, as we know there remains some snow pack to melt. Ontario Power Generation (OPG) continues to monitor inflows and lake conditions and will communicate as conditions change.
