Temagami Fire Department: Marine Emergency Response Needs – Community Information Survey

The Temagami Fire Department is writing to distribute a survey to strictly gather data on the community’s opinion on Marine Emergency Response.

On the Thursday August 13, 2026 Municipal Council Meeting, the Temagami Fire Department sought direction from Council to continue a feasibility study surrounding the addition of a marine capability to the level of service offered. This venture began when the opportunity to acquire a surplus vessel from an Ontario Public Service Ministry came to light. In this Council Meeting, Council unanimously provided direction not to proceed and recommended this venture be deferred to the succeeding Council following the Municipal Election in the fall of 2026.

We are seeking input in the form of a survey. The purpose is to provide real input from the community on who would be impacted by this decision the most, and to ensure our next proposal is as informed as possible.

Currently, there is no emergency medical or Fire Department response capability on Cassels Lake or Rabbit Lake, and limited emergency-medical-response capability on Lake Temagami through private contractors.
