“Temagami Shoreline Clean-Up Challenge” 2025

Over the years, the amount of garbage floating in the water and sitting on the shorelines of lakes in the Temagami area has increased. Of particular concern are plastics, as they can take hundreds of years to break down. They may never do so entirely, but instead disintegrate into smaller and smaller pieces – which can have negative impacts on wildlife.

To help address this issue, the Temagami Lakes Association (TLA) is once again inviting anyone who resides on, or enjoys, Lake Temagami and other area lakes to participate in the “Temagami Shoreline Clean-Up Challenge”. From July 1 to August 31, 2025, we encourage year-round and seasonal residents, as well as visitors, to seek out and collect trash that is in the water or lying on mainland or island shorelines.

Prizes will be awarded at the end of the summer season in these categories:

(a) “Most Trash Collected” (GIFT CERTIFICATE FROM BLOOMS ‘N LOONS)

(b) “Most-Unique Piece of Trash” (GIFT CERTIFICATE FROM LOON LODGE)

(c) “Oldest Piece of Trash” (GIFT CERTIFICATE FROM TEMAGAMI MARINE)

(d) “Most-Useful Piece of Trash” (GIFT CERTIFICATE FROM NORTHLAND TRADERS)

(e) “Largest Piece of Trash” (GIFT CERTIFICATE FROM BLOOMS ‘N LOONS)

(f) Each child participant receives a Friends of Temagami T-Shirt + Temagami souvenir.

… and there is also a bonus prize for the “Most Entries Submitted”.

Please dispose of all items appropriately, and e-mail a photo(s) of your trash-collection efforts to the TLA at tla@onlink.net by August 31st. Let’s help to keep Lake Temagami, and area lakes and shorelines, trash free!!
