Proposed Marten River Rest Area: Request for “Boat-Cleaning Station”

The Ministry of Transportation Ontario is planning to construct a “Rest Area” in the Marten River area – just south of Temagami. Construction is currently scheduled for the Fall of 2026 (pending funding and approvals).

Currently, a “Boat-Cleaning Station” (with or without water) has not been included in these plans. This is a missed opportunity, as the site would be the perfect location to prevent the spread of invasive species into the Temagami area and beyond.

Please take the time to write a letter to Keith Dustin, Project Manager for Stantec Consulting Ltd. (keith.dustin@stantec.com), and Lindsay Keats, Project Manager for the Ministry of Transportation in North Bay (lindsay.keats@ontario.ca), to request the addition of a “Boat-Cleaning Station” for the new Marten River Rest Area. If sufficient numbers of people advocate for this, we might be successful in obtaining a critical piece of infrastructure that is vital to stemming the movement of invasives species into NE Ontario.

The 30-day public review began on July 9th – so please submit your comments/suggestions by August 7, 2026.
