Here are the details:

Guest Speaker: At this year’s AGM, we are honoured to have a presentation by Dr. Jesse Vermaire – who is currently an Associate Professor with the Institute of Environmental Science and cross-appointed with the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Carleton University. His research focuses on the long-term impacts of human activity on our freshwater resources. Dr. Vermaire employs a number of approaches to understand the long-term impacts of human actions on freshwater systems to help inform management and conservation of lakes and rivers in a changing environment.

Presentation Title: “Ecological Change in Lake Temagami Over the Last Century: Impacts of Damming, Acid Rain, and Climate Warming”

2. Islander Fire-Pump and First-Aid Training (Wednesday, July 30, 2025):

Come to the TLA building for an afternoon of sharing and education. We will address 2 topics of interest to all who spend time on Lake Temagami – fire and medical preparedness.

From 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., we will set up and run a fire pump. This is a hands-on demo, but we will also share ideas about fire prevention, communication, and response.

From 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., we will host wilderness medical training for islanders. This class will cover accident prevention, emergency communication, CPR and AED use, stopping bleeding, choking, hypothermia, drowning, and allergic reactions, as well as the first-aid kits and supplies that we should have on our islands. This will be a fun class and include lots of time for sharing ideas and experiences.

The training will be taught by Brad Sablosky: Firefighter/Paramedic, wilderness medical instructor, pilot, and owner of Island 741.

Participation is limited to 20 members – so, please confirm your attendance by e-mailing tla@onlink.net or phoning 705-237-8927 by Saturday, July 26, 2025. There is no cost, and each person is asked to bring a chair.
