The “Lake Temagami Shoreline Clean-Up Challenge” 2023 received 45 entries – 34 of which were in the categories below.

Here are images of the prize-winning trash from each of the challenge categories:
1. Most Trash Collected (Mike, Abby, and Massey Drenth):
Mike, Abby, and Massey Drenth won a fishing rod from Gramp’s Place + 2 dozen worms from Charley’s Worms at Drifter’s General Store in the “Most Trash Collected” category. They collected 10 tires, a bumper strip, metal remains of a chain and barrel, plus random items, such as pop cans.
2. Most Unique Piece of Trash (Joan Seivold):
Joan Seivold won a gift basket from the Temagami Lakes Association (with a shoal map, wall map, history book, cookbook) in the “Most Unique Piece of Trash” category. What makes this item so unique is that Crane Lake Resort is located near Parry Sound – approximately 275 km south of where this sign was found!
3. Oldest Piece of Trash (Kristy Wilhelmsen):
Kristy Wilhelmsen won a $50.00 gift certificate from Loon Lodge and Adam’s Outfitting in the “Oldest Piece of Trash” category. This battery has definitely seen better days.
4. Most Useful Piece of Trash (Nicole Brooker):
Nicole Brooker won a full, 20-lb., BBQ propane cylinder from K & S Natural Gas and Propane Services in the “Most Useful Piece of Trash” category. Please contact the TLA if this jacket belongs to you.
5. Largest Piece of Trash (Rebekah Waddell):
Rebekah Waddell won a $100.00 gift card for a dinner for two at The Outfitter in the “Largest Piece of Trash” category. This abandoned houseboat has been tied to the shoreline of Temagami Island for at least two years. Efforts to find the owner have been unsuccessful, and it will not survive another winter. Rebekah has lobbied the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry to remove the houseboat and has also offered her assistance in resolving this matter.
6. General Raffle Category (France Gingras):
France Gingras won a full, 20-lb., BBQ propane cylinder from K & S Natural Gas and Propane Services in the “General Raffle” category for trash collected. This boat bumper is one of the many items that France collected along the Lake Temagami shoreline and in the water.
N.B., Another participant, who we have not yet been able to contact, won the Adventure Planning Map from the Friends of Temagami in the General Raffle Category.
