The Municipality of Temagami is seeking public input on a proposed by-law that would introduce a permit system for the placement of personal property, such as trailers, boats, and recreational equipment, on municipally-owned or controlled land.
A public consultation and information session will be held to explain the purpose, scope, and expected impacts of the by-law, including details about costs, responsibilities, and enforcement. This session is part of a larger public engagement process to collect feedback before any decisions are made.

ABOUT THE PROPOSED BY-LAW:
The draft by-law would apply to all municipal lands, including roadsides, boat launches, parking lots, and vacant lots under municipal jurisdiction. Individuals would need to obtain a permit before placing certain items, such as licensed trailers (18’ or longer), boats on trailers, ATVs, and other equipment on public land.

PERMIT CONDITIONS INCLUDE:
• $25 non-refundable fee per item, per year
• Application and approval by a Municipal Law Enforcement Officer
• Annual renewal requirement
• Owner responsibility for all property
• Enforcement provisions including possible fines or removal of items
COST AND FUNDING CONSIDERATIONS:
Estimated municipal cost to administer and enforce each permit:
• Administration and processing: $30
• Inspection and mapping: $40
• Recordkeeping: $20
• Potential enforcement (if needed): $150+
*** Total average estimated cost: $90+ per permit ***
*** Proposed fee: $25 per item ***
*** Estimated cost recovery: Approximately 28% ***
*** The remainder of the program costs would be funded through the general municipal budget, unless permit fees or cost-recovery options are adjusted. ***
