“Temagami Shoreline Clean-Up Challenge” Wraps Up for 2024

 

The “Temagami Shoreline Clean-Up Challenge” ended on September 3, 2024 and received 48 entries – 17 of which were from children. Each child participant received either a TLA or Friends of Temagami t-shirt and a $25.00 CAD cash prize. John Shymko contributed $200.00 toward these cash prizes, while the Temagami Lakes Assocation added another $225.00.

Rebeccah, Elliot, Seija, Ellie, Riley, Abby, Heidi, Joshua, Thomas, Wiley, Alex, Becky, Declan, Alyssa, Cora, Georgia, and Max did a great job!

Abby retrieved many items from the water – including this tire.

Rebeccah shows a large piece of rubber that she collected from Lake Temagami.

Heidi removed a piece of plastic from the water.

Great prizes from generous local businesses were also awarded in each of the five adult categories, as follows:

(a) two, $125.00 Gift Basket from Blooms ‘N Loons for the “Most Trash Collected”: co-winners were Kevin and Andy

Kevin retrieved many items from Angus Lake.

(b) $50.00 Gift Card from Drifter’s General Store for the “Most-Unique Piece of Trash”: winner was Penny

Penny found a United States Equestrian Team Foundation hat from the 2008 Olympics.

(c) $120.00 Tackle Basket from Loon Lodge for the “Oldest Piece of Trash”: winner was Riina

Riina discovered a circa 1961 Coca Cola bottle.

(d) $100.00 Gift Card from Outfitter Bar and Smokehouse for the “Most-Useful Piece of Trash”: winners were Terry and Val

After waiting all summer for someone to claim the small dock they found, Terry and Val removed the boards to re-use them for other projects.

(e) $100.00 Gift Card from Temagami Shores for the “Largest Piece of Trash”: winner was Bob

Bob went to great lengths to remove a snowmobile that had been sitting for some time in the waters of the NE Arm.

Submissions to Temagami Times (Fall 2024)

 

Please note that the submission deadline for the Fall 2024 edition of the Temagami Times is Sunday, September 15th. All submissions are subject to editorial review.

Articles should be approximately 500 to 700 words in length and in Word format.

Photos/tables/graphs must be high-resolution PDF, TIFF, or JPEG images – with a minimum of 200 dpi (dots per inch) at 100%. Typically, this means file sizes of at least 1,000 kb for photos.

Please send images as separate attachments (i.e., not imbedded in articles or e-mails), and include a title and photographer/source for each image.

Remember that the “Temagami Shoreline Clean-Up Challenge 2024” ends in one week!

Please consider collecting trash that is in the water or lying on mainland or island shorelines. Great prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

REMINDER: Temagami “Official Plan” – Notice of “Public Open House” and “Statutory Public Meeting” (Thursday, August 22, 2024)

 

The Council for the Municipality of Temagami will be holding a Public “Open House” and “Statutory Public Meeting” on Thursday, August 22, 2024 to provide an opportunity to review Draft # 2 of the proposed, new Official Plan (OP).

The “Open House” will be a drop-in session with no formal presentation. Residents will be able to review the document and the schedules, and ask questions of the Planners.

The Public Meeting in the evening will be a formal “Statutory Public Meeting” under the Planning Act.
