Newly-Issued MNRF Fire Restrictions – Temagami Region (July 11, 2018)

FIRE RESTRICTIONS AND PROHIBITED ACCESS
Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF)
(as of July 11, 2018)

1. There are currently 19 fires burning in the Municipality of Temagami;
however, this number can change rapidly.
2. The dry conditions and warm weather early in the summer has created
dangerous conditions for forest fires.
3. The Temagami area is in an emergency situation. Although you may not
see or smell these fires, they are actively burning.
4. The MNRF has restricted access to the areas that are currently under
threat, based on weather, fire risk, local fire activity as well as potential
fire risk.
5. Public safety is absolutely paramount. While this emergency is being
managed the identified areas are to be vacated as soon as possible.
6. These conditions change frequently. Check the website daily at:

accurate information.

Reports are Temagami forest fire conditions are improving, but emergency still in place as multiple sites burn. Here are some stunning shots from Lake Temagami’s northeast arm taken 5 pm Sunday by Bear Island Police Constable Tom Saville.

Emergency Management Committee met at 7:00 pm July 10, 2018

Reports on the fires near Temagami are positive. Ministry of Natural Resources and
Forestry (MNRF) officials are currently assessing the fire near Temagami and are not in a position to change existing evacuation orders. Therefore Mandatory Evacuation Orders from Temagami Shores at the South edge of the town of Temagami to Jessie Lake,including Finlayson Point Provincial Park, remain in effect. The Mandatory Evacuation Order for Marten River Provincial Park remains in effect. Evacuation standby for the Town of Temagami and surrounding area, will remain in effect until further notice.

All Provincial Parks in the area are now closed and all interior and back country travel
